Your Top Ten images of 2013
I'll start with my top ten and then a few honorable mentions (in no particular order):

Hoodoos lit by the last remaining hints of twilight as the stars come out above a remote New Mexico wilderness.
    1265656_670450076312659_1940985764_o.jpg

Clouds race by well after sunset in this long exposure taken in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
    830303_554446177913050_815811984_o.jpg

Star trail from under Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. A unique processing approach made the Milky Way pop from within the image.
    920178_604650156225985_1413807007_o.jpg

Probably the most gorgeous supercell I've seen while chasing. This beast churned towards me while I captured a 200+ image timelapse of it.
    1014891_614235391934128_1140225760_o.jpg

The South Window in Arches National Park under a beaming Milky Way.
    1008933_627392940618373_879398605_o.jpg

This was an incredible morning in the San Juan mountains. Fresh snow, cold temps, and a perfectly still pond.
    1398836_676885779002422_1066061611_o.jpg

One of the best aurora shows of the year. This was captured in Iowa, well south of where the auroras usually make an appearance.
    965718_607228712634796_1775600882_o.jpg

Pretty cool wall cloud here! Right as this supercell started ramping things up, this wall cloud decended in a near-perfect cylinder from the base. A couple minutes later, it was spinning faster than just about any storm I've ever seen yet didn't drop a tornado with me being only a quarter to half mile away.
    1040805_620975681260099_1785445909_o.jpg

Another beautiful morning in the San Juan mountains.
    1498953_711635938860739_2086140475_o.jpg

Last but certainly not least in the top 10, a rare "self portrait" taken gazing up at the stars under Delicate Arch.
    981066_718819811475685_52251107_o.jpg

    Honorable Mentions:

The dark skies in the Bisti Badlands are something to behold.
    882861_678462808844719_1329875524_o.jpg

The mammatus of a passing storm light up at sunset. This was taken at Toadstool Geologic Park in northwestern Nebraska - an incredible area that is very, very rarely photographed.
    1167286_650647491626251_282484822_o.jpg

Unique capstone rock formations in the Bisti Badlands.

I'll bite. I'd say "personal" favorites can range from a great technical image all the way to a snapshot from a trip that stands out due to the situation or circumstance. I'd say most of mine are from the experience or memories from taking the shot

    1. Campus point, UCSB - More of an image that brings me back to college, as I used to surf here throughout my 4 years of school

    campus%20point%20sunset-L.jpg

    2. Alkali Lake, Eastern Sierras - One of the first times I tried my hand at the Milky Way

    Milky%20way%20over%20the%20sierras%2C%20alkali%20lake%20benton%20crossing-L.jpg

    3. Sunrise Point, Hurricane Ridge, Olympic national park - had to get up early and drive/hike to this point just to be greeted with clear skies but had to make the best of it

    sunrise%20point%20hurricane%20ridge%20olympic%20national%20park-L.jpg

    4. 2nd beach, Olympic national park - hiked out to this beach the night before to understand where it was and how I might try to shoot it but everything changed in the morning when a thick layer of fog covered the beach. Took this as the fog was clearing. Only me and 1 other shooter that am

    foggy%20morning%20second%20beach%20la%20push%20olympic%20national%20park-L.jpg

5 - 7. Eastern Sierras around mammoth and the June Loop - I'm here once a year for the fall colors

    Silver%20lake%20Fishing-L.jpg

8-10. Some local stuff which I told myself I was going to get out and do more

byoshi - that shot with the steam rising from the water in front of fall color is perfect. Can definitely see why it was a favorite. Something about the shot really puts me into the scene and I can see everything unfolding in front of me.

anwmn1 - Shots 3 and 4 are killer. Love the light bleeding out of the background onto the scene!

captnemo - Those cave shots are awesome! I especially like the fourth with the backlighting and fog.

Thanks very much- full disclosure on that fourth one, the lighting set up was done by the wonderful cave photographer Phillipe Crochet and his lovely wife Anni is the model, I felt very lucky to have been on a cave trip with both them and Peter Bosted (the model in my shot of the drapery) who is also a great cave photographer. We spent an extra four or five hours just taking pictures on that trip :) Good thing they had a rental car as by the time we walked back to the meeting point our ride was long gone.
